Home 9 Beyond the Veil 9 The Hidden Truth About Acceptance

The approval we seek from others often mirrors the acceptance we need to give ourselves. When we stop seeking validation from those who haven’t found it within, we open the door to a lived freely and authentically.

Why Should We Seek Acceptance?

Why do we spend so much of our time and energy seeking acceptance from others? It’s a question that’s often brushed under the rug, but I’ve found it to be one of the most important questions to ask on our journey of . The is, most of us, at some point in our lives, have craved acceptance—whether it’s from family, friends, or society at large. But when we pause and really think about it, the deeper, more pressing question emerges: why should we seek acceptance from people who don’t even accept themselves?

This realization came to me during a time when I felt like I was on the outside looking in, observing life as if it were a play where everyone was performing their roles. I could see the masks people wore, the façades they maintained, all in the name of fitting in or gaining approval. It was as if they were living out someone else’s script, rather than their own authentic story.

What struck me most was how often these people didn’t seem at with themselves. They were caught up in a cycle of self-doubt and insecurity, seeking validation from others because they couldn’t find it within. And that’s when I had to ask myself: why should I seek acceptance from someone who hasn’t even accepted their own true self?

This realization was a turning point in my journey. I started to see that the approval I was seeking from others was really just a of the approval I needed to give myself. I realized that by trying to fit into someone else’s mold, I was denying the unique, authentic self that I was meant to be. It was time to stop looking outward for validation and start looking inward for truth.

Take a moment to look at the above. It shows a striking cloud formation suspended in the sky during late evening. The cloud, illuminated by the sun’s warm glow, seems to almost be alive, moving with intention across the sky.

This photograph is more than just a beautiful moment; it’s a powerful symbol of our journey toward self-acceptance. The cloud represents our authentic self—free, expansive, and unconfined by societal expectations. The golden light represents the warmth and acceptance we can find within ourselves when we allow our true to shine through.

Just as the cloud floats freely, without the need to conform or be anything other than what it is, so too can we live authentically, without the need for external approval. The sky is vast, open, and limitless—just like the potential within each of us when we who we truly are.

Reflections

As you consider these thoughts and the symbolism of the photograph, I invite you to reflect on a few questions:

  1. Who am I seeking acceptance from, and why? – Consider whether these individuals or groups have truly accepted themselves, and how that impacts your desire for their approval.
  2. What masks am I still wearing? – Reflect on the roles you play in different aspects of your life. Are they true to who you are, or are they designed to fit in with others’ expectations?
  3. How can I cultivate self-acceptance? – What practices, thoughts, or behaviors can you adopt to nurture a deeper sense of acceptance within yourself, without relying on external validation?
  4. What would it look like to live freely, like the cloud in the photograph? – Imagine a life where you fully embrace your true self, without the need to conform or seek approval. What changes would you need to make to live that life?
  5. Am I ready to let go of the need for external validation? – Consider the impact that letting go of this need could have on your life. What new possibilities might open up for you?

As you sit with these reflections, remember that the journey to self-acceptance is ongoing. It’s not about getting it right all the time, but about continually coming back to the truth of who you are. By embracing your unique lifescape and letting go of the need for acceptance from those who haven’t found it within themselves, you can begin to live more freely, authentically, and joyfully.
